The Dalton Highway is Alaska's lifeline to the Arctic. Starting in Fairbanks, the first day of this journey takes you north through the sub-arctic region, crossing the Arctic Circle and visiting the tiny settlement of Coldfoot. The Gates of the Arctic National Park, Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Brooks Range and North Slope are all accessed along your route. With rustic accommodation in Coldfoot and Deadhorse, you sample life in the rural north.

Northbound Itinerary Day 1: Fairbanks > Coldfoot This morning you will depart Fairbanks for your journey to the Arctic Ocean. Traveling with a driver-guide you will visit the Arctic Circle Trading Post in the rural community of Joy. Travel along the rugged Dalton Highway north and experience the mighty Yukon River. Marvel at the majestic beauty of the northland's most famous waterway and learn about its storied past. You will cross the Arctic Circle on towards your destination of Coldfolt.

Overnight Coldfoot Camp

Day 2: Coldfoot > Prudhoe Bay Today you will continue north climbing over the Continental Divide at Atigun Pass. You will have an opportunity to explore the amazing Arctic Tundra of the Arctic Coastal Plain and feel the veins of ice just beneath the surface

Overnight Deadhorse Camp

Day 3: Prudhoe Bay > Fairbanks You have the opportunity to visit the Prudhoe Bay oil fields and touch the frigid Arctic Ocean; perhaps you will even want to dip your toe in! You return to Fairbanks by air this afternoon. The flight between Prudhoe Bay and Fairbanks is typically conducted in 8-passenger or 19-passenger twin-engine aircraft

Southbound Itinerary Day 1: Fairbanks > Prudhoe Bay Fly north from Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay. Visit the Prudhoe Bay oil fields and begin the journey by dipping your toe in the frigid waters of the Arctic Ocean. The flight between Fairbanks and Prudhoe Bay is typically conducted in 8-passenger or 19-passenger twin-engine aircraft

Overnight Deadhorse Camp

Day 2: Prudhoe Bay > Coldfoot Ground tour south in the personalized comfort of our tour vans along the famed Dalton Highway. Explore up close the amazing arctic tundra of the Arctic Coastal Plain and feel the veins of ice just beneath the surface. Continue across the Arctic Coastal Plain before climbing through the majestic Brooks Mountain Range and over the Continental Divide at Atigun Pass

Overnight Coldfoot Camp

Day 3: Coldfoot > Fairbanks Visit the historic goldmining community of Wiseman. Cross over the Arctic Circle and receive an official Arctic Circle Adventure Certificate. Experience the mighty Yukon River. Marvel at the majestic beauty of the northland's most famous waterway and learn of the river's storied past. Visit the Arctic Circle Trading Post situated in the rural community of Joy, Alaska. Complete your adventure with a southbound ground tour back to Fairbanks

Please Note:

Accommodation: Overnight accommodations consist of very basic, clean rooms with two twin beds that are extremely rustic by urban standards. There are no private bathrooms in the rooms. There are private toilet and shower stalls in separate men's and women's facilities that are shared among guests.

Luggage restriction: It is very important to limit yourself to one hand-carry size bag per person for your overnight bag with a total weight of 6.5 kg / 15 lbs per person. Luggage can be stored and delivered upon your return.
