Riviera Cooking & the Cinque Terre
Craggy cliffs and mountains jut out of the Mediterranean in Liguria, the north western corner of Italy. Seaside villages like Santa Margherita, Portofino, Camogli and the Cinque Terre cling to the cliffs, coloured by bougainvillea and fragranced with the fresh sea breeze. Delve into the heart and soul of the maritime history and culture of Liguria (it is also the birthplace of Pesto), through cooking lessons in these towns.
Day 1: Santa Margherita Ligure Arrive in Santa Margherita Ligure to check into your hotel. Later this evening, taste typical Ligurian gastronomic products before dinner in a local restaurant.
Day 2: Cooking Lesson Learn to prepare Genovese style focaccia, vegetable quiches, and pesto. The food from the cooking lesson will serve as lunch. The afternoon is spent at leisure; perhaps make the short drive to Portofino, or visit the small fishing village San Fruttuoso, or the fishermen selling the catch of the day at the afternoon market in Santa Margherita.
Day 3: Cinque Terre A day tour of the Cinque Terre: visit the villages of Monterosso, Vernazza, Riomaggiore, Corniglia and Manarola which make up this stunning area of shoreline dotted with villages and rocky cliffs. Enjoy a tasting lunch and visit an organic farm producing wine, olive oil and grapefruit.
Day 4: Cooking Lesson Cooking lesson today; prepare typical entrees like minestrone alla Genovese and pansoti. Lunch will follow. Time spent at leisure in the afternoon and dinner in Santa Margherita.
Day 5: Depart Santa Margherita Ligure Arrangements conclude after breakfast.
