The History & Wildlife of Jordan
The Dana Nature Reserve is Jordan's hidden gem. The beautiful nature reserve covers the Rummana Mountain, part of a chain from the Jordan Rift Valley. The park features not only sandstone cliffs, wooded highlands and ancient ruins but a wonderfully diverse range of flora and fauna. Combine this with the wonders of Jerash and Petra along with the incomparable Dead Sea for a memorable journey of Jordan's history and wildlife.
Day 1: Arrive Amman On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
Day 2: Jerash Morning orientation tour of Amman before visiting Jerash. Jerash is the best-preserved Roman city of the Decapolis. View the Oval Plaza, Temple of Zeus, South Theatre, Colonnaded Street and Market Place. Continue to the castle of Qal'at al-Rabad at Aljoun before returning to your hotel.
Day 3: Amman > Desert Castles > Amman Today visit the desert castles, scattered through the desert east of Amman. These isolated trading complexes were once a thriving group of caravan stations, secluded baths and hunting lodges.
Day 4: Amman > Petra Drive to Petra today travelling through Madaba with its extraordinary mosaic map of the Holy Land, Mt Nebo to look out over the Dead Sea and the Promised Land as well as the Crusader Castle of Kerak.
Day 5: Petra Travel on foot or on horseback through the 'Siq' to the Treasury. Then to the Street of Facades, the Theatre, Royal Tombs, Colonnaded Street, Byzantine church, the Temple, Monumental Arch and Qasr el-Bint Faroun
Day 6: Beida > Wadi Rum Visit Beida or 'Little Petra' with its maze of caves before continuing to Wadi Rum. A vast, silent place, timeless and starkly beautiful. Wadi Rum is one of the most stunning desert landscapes in the world approximately 120kms from Petra. Join a 4WD for a drive through the landscape and camp overnight in comfortable tents.
Day 7: Wadi Rum > Dana Nature Reserve Depart early for the Dana Nature Reserve. Enjoy some of the 600 species of plants, 37 species of mammals and 190 species of birds to be found in the park. After a short visit to the ruins of Feinan and Dana Village continue to your simple accommodation for overnight.
Day 8: Dana > Amman After a hike through the reserve, drive to Amman for your final night in Jordan
Day 9: Depart Amman Transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
