This seven night cruise is sure to satisfy curious minds! Experience wildlife viewing while enjoying a yacht cruise along the West Africa Coast and upstream on the Gambia River, deep inside the African continent.

Cruising with Variety Cruises, discover the waterways of Senegal and Gambia with visits to no less than 4 Natural Reserves. The onboard Gambian River Naturalist will assist in discovering the amazing flora and fauna and will be your side throughout this exciting voyage, unraveling the wonders of West Africa.

Highlights include: The Sine Saloun Delta, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and a birdwatcher's paradise, Djiffere fishing village; River Gambia National Park, Wassu mysterious stone circles, another UNESCO World Heritage site, Bao Bolong Wetland Reserve and Kiang West National Park in Gambia.

Your ship: The 25 cabins of the M/Y Harmony V are located on the Main deck (9 cabins) and on the Upper Deck (16 cabins). All cabins are premium, contemporary, and decorated with soft colour furnishings. All 16 cabins on the Upper Deck offer flexible bedding configuration, which can be set to offer either two twin beds or a double bed. All cabins offer large windows and en suite bathrooms with shower and elegant Corian finishing on walls and floors. The cabins are equipped with flat screen TV sets, DVD players, mini fridge, hairdryers, individually controlled A/C and safe deposit boxes.

During the day, life on board centres around the Bar Lounge and Dining Room at the Main Deck, with meals also served "al fresco" style depending on the weather and ship location. The ship accommodates all guests at one single seating and provides a high standard of cuisine with some local flavour. The classy dining room is surrounded by large windows providing beautiful views of the ports of call. The Sun Deck is the ideal place to bask under the sun, read a good book or just gaze at the scenery.

Day 1: Dakar Late afternoon embarkation. Set sail southward toward the Saloun River Delta.

Day 2: Differe > Banjul Explore the Sine - Saloun Delta, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and also an Important Birding Area. A precious natural habitat for many bird species but also such aquatic animals as marine turtles, dolphins, West African manatees and crocodiles. Later in the afternoon set sail south to Gambia.

Day 3: Banjul > Tendaba Reach Banjul, the capital of Gambia and gateway to the 700-mile Gambia River. Morning optional tour to the Katchikaly Sacred Crododile Pool, Botanic Gardens, and a short Banjul tour. We sail upstream for Tendaba.

Day 4: Tendaba From the ship we take motor pirogues to reach Tendaba, our starting point of the morning optional excursion. Visit the small fishing village whose approximate 600 inhabitants' main occupation is fishing. Visit other small villages getting an impression of local life in The Gambia. In the afternoon, travel by motor pirogues for the afternoon optional excursion to the Bao Bolong Wetland Reserve.

Day 5: Tendaba > Kuntaur, River Gambia Sail upstream to the bustling Gambian port town of Kuntaur, and enjoy a walking tour. Later, board a large motor pirogue for an optional excursion to Baboon Island, home of the Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Project. If we are lucky we can closely observe the chimps with minimal intrusion. It is also possible to see hippos, crocodiles, red colobus monkeys, green vervet monkeys and some of The Gambia's famous birdlife.

Day 6: Kuntaur > Janjanbureh > Kaur > Banjul Optional excursion to Janjanbureh one of the oldest towns of The Gambia, formerly called Georgetown. Later, there is a stop at the mysterious stone circles in Wassu, a megalithic site believed to be a burial ground thousands of years ago. Afternoon sail downstream to Kaur, a small fishing village. Walk around the small community and see how Gambians live today. In the evening we sail downstream towards Banjul.

Day 7: Banjul Anchor at St James Island, which was historically an important slave trading post under the British rule in The Gambia and is now UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. Optional walking tour. Continue the journey to reach Banjul and later in the evening, sail out of the Gambia estuary into the Atlantic Ocean northwards to Dakar.

Day 8: Dakar Early morning arrival in Dakar, and disembark after breakfast.
