The ultimate Costa Rican adventure for the more active nature lover! Experience this nature lover's paradise enjoying tropical rainforests and lush green canyons. You will white water raft on the Pacuare River, hike and snorkel in the warm Caribbean waters at the Cahuita National Park where monkeys, sloths, several reptiles, frogs and beautiful insects are common sights above the waterline. If visiting during the months of July through until September, you may even be lucky enough to view a turtle nesting, as Tortuguero is one of the most important nesting sites of the Caribbean green turtle, the leatherback and the hawksbill turtles, that come each year to lay their eggs. You will visit the region around the Arenal Volcano with its hot springs, and then finally enjoy some relaxation in the Pacific coastal resort area of the beautiful Gulf of Papagayo.

Day 1: San Jose Upon your arrival you will be met and privately transferred to your hotel.

Day 2: San Jose > Pacuare River An early start this morning as you leave San Jose and drive to the Pacuare River for a day of adventure and adrenaline. Enjoy an incredible white-water rafting journey on this wild and scenic river, which passes through canyons where crystal-clear waterfalls cascade and lush, dense green vegetation comes right to the water's edge. The thick undergrowth of this protected area provides shelter for a variety tropical animals and colourful birds, including some rare and endangered species. When you arrive at your selected lodge, you will find a unique jungle oasis nestled in a most remarkable setting.

Day 3: Pacuare River > Puerto Viejo de Limon Awake to the harmony created by the sound of the river rushing by, and the sweet song of the tropical birds emanating from the thick of the forest. After a delicious buffet breakfast, you will launch the rafts again for the second even more thrilling day on the river, as you begin to use the skills and experience gained the day before. Stop to explore side streams that lead to striking waterfalls and a natural waterslide that invites you to enjoy the fun. Lunch will be served along the river and then continue onto Puerto Viejo de Limon for your two night stay. This region offers a mix of coast, rainforest, culture and some great Afro-Caribbean food.

Day 4: Puerto Viejo de Limon > Cahuita National Park > Puerto Viejo de Limon Today visit the Cahuita National Park, which features the largest coral reefs in southern Central America, as well as great hiking trails rich in birds and wildlife. Today's excursion combines a boat ride, snorkelling and hiking. On arrival at Punta Cahuita, explore first-hand the underwater tropical forest with many varieties of coral and many species of colourful fish. Later enjoy a guided rainforest hike where you may be lucky to spot monkeys, sloth, several reptiles, frogs and beautiful insects.

Day 5: Puerto Viejo de Limon > Tortuguero Departing Puerto Viejo today head to the northern Caribbean region. Passing the town of Guapiles, continue to the local pier where you will take a boat transfer through the channels to Tortuguero, surrounded by lush rainforest with its rich diversity of flora and fauna. During the trip, you will observe various types of birds, reptiles and monkeys, among other animals.

In the afternoon, visit the picturesque village of Tortuguero where you learn about the lifestyle of local residents and the important conservation efforts that have developed to help preserve the nesting sites of the Caribbean green turtle, the leatherback and the hawksbill turtles that come to nest each year.

During the months of July to September, you can take an optional evening excursion (at additional costs) to view this impressive natural event where the turtles come ashore along the 22Km's of protected beach.

Day 6: Tortuguero National Park Today visit Tortuguero National Park with its enormous biodiversity, offering visitors multiple species of trees and plants and over 405 bird species, many of which are viewed during your boat trip. Mammals which also may be spotted include the white-faced and howler monkeys, three-toed sloths and with luck, endangered species such as the jaguar, ocelot and tapir. There are also common sightings of crocodile, turtles and freshwater fish which always ensures Tortuguero provides a truly unforgettable experience.

Day 7: Tortuguero > Arenal Volcano Departing the lodge by boat, return along the canals to the town of Guapiles to enjoy lunch before continuing by road through the northern plains of Costa Rica heading towards the Arenal Volcano. This drive offers beautiful scenery and picturesque rural towns. Upon reaching La Fortuna de San Carlos, if the weather is clear, you will have views of the mighty Arenal Volcano with its impressive perfect conical shape. The volcano, one of the worlds most active, has been erupting continuously for more than 50 years.

This evening visit the impressive Tabacon Hot Springs where you will find several hot mineral pools which are heated directly from the volcanic veins of the Arenal Volcano. Enjoy a swim in the pools and dinner surrounded in the exotic gardens and before returning to your hotel for a three night stay.

Day 8: Arenal Volcano This morning enjoy a visit to the Sky Adventures Park, where you will find the Sky Tram and Sky Trek. This tour combines the ascent to the top of the mountain by an aerial tram, enjoying the beautiful landscapes of the Arenal Lake, while the descent is through the famous canopy tour (Zip Lines), which goes from one mountain to another,

You have the afternoon at leisure, to relax or enjoy some more excursions, at your own cost.

Day 9: Arenal Volcano Today, hike to the Rio Celeste Waterfall, the Celeste River is a natural wonder and is located in the Tenorio Volcano National Park. The river gets its colours from the different volcanic minerals where local legend says that when God finished painting the heaven, he washed the brush in the Rio Celeste saving the privilege of watching the enchanting river just for a few adventurers.

Day 10: Arenal Volcano > Gulf of Papagayo This morning journey through to the beautiful Guanacaste province and the Gulf of Papagayo which is located on the north Pacific coast of Costa Rica. During the drive admire the incredible views of Lake Arenal and quaint rural villages until you reach the highway, where you may notice the change between the tropical rain forest and the much more arid forest that characterizes the entire Guanacaste province. Upon reaching the coast, enjoy three nights at your hotel.

Day 11 & 12: Gulf of Papagayo Days at leisure for you to enjoy the hotel facilities and surrounding areas. The region is known for its extensive nature reserves, which house an incredible concentration of flora, fauna and natural beauty. In this area are several nature reserves and many optional activities that can be enjoyed from this area - at additional cost.

Some suggestions are Rincón de la Vieja National Park, which holds an active volcano and thermal mud baths; Palo Verde National Park, which is a bird-watchers and nature-lover's paradise, and some more adventurous activities like canopy tours, river rafting, horseback riding, hiking and much more!

Day 13: Gulf of Papagayo > San Jose This morning you will transferred back to San Jose and be dropped the airport for your departure flight and the end of your Costa Rican Adventure.
