The Great Migration
• Masai Mara • Serengeti National Park • Overnight in a treehouse
Fall under the spell of the enchanting landscapes of Kenya and Tanzania with this tailor-made journey including the Masai Mara and the Serengeti with an adventurous night spent out in "The Nest". Overnight in your very own treehouse as you sleep under the stars and watch the world go by (and an occasional elephant) with all the sights and sounds of Africa!
Stay within some of Kenya's best private conservancies to enjoy exclusive safari activities and then enjoy the Serengeti whilst staying at some of the renowned Alex Walker Serian camps. The word 'serian' comes from the Masai language, meaning 'serene... calm... tranquil' and there is an element of this that is particular to the bush.
Day 1: Nairobi > Masai Mara / Mara North Conservancy Today fly from Nairobi to Mara North Airstrip where you will then transfer to Ngare Serian Camp (accessible by rope bridge only) for the next three nights. This small intimate camp consisting of just four tents is set on the banks of the Mara River on a pristine 4000 hectare wildlife concession. The river is teeming with laughing hippos and the wildlife is never far away.
Days 2 & 3: Masai Mara / Mara North Conservancy Spend two full days enjoying the guided walking safaris with your dedicated guide, or exploring the Mara in your private safari vehicle - one is guaranteed for each tent. Plan a day in the Masai Mara national park with a delicious picnic lunch or simply lounge on the shaded deck and listen to the hippos in the river. Dining will take place in a variety of memorable spots, and every night bid the day farewell with an icy cold sundowner drink in a scenic spot. With no fixed routine, every moment is yours to enjoy just how you like.
Day 4: Masai Mara / Mara North Conservancy Today enjoy the safari activities on offer, before late afternoon transfer to The Nest for your overnight treehouse experience. The Nest is perched out on a limb in a lone Warburgia tree overlooking the Mara River. A mere meander away from Serian Camp, it includes a queen size bed with bathroom facilities available and is perfect for a romantic experience for two: think dinner under the stars to the sounds of harrumphing hippo.
Day 5: Masai Mara > Serengeti National Park Today enjoy a land/air transfer through to the Serengeti. Depending on the time of year you will stay at the best located camp in the Serengeti for the Migration. Enjoy four nights at the Serian's Mobile Lamai or Kusini Camp. Although it's a mobile camp, its furnishings and creature comforts are simplistically elegant and comfortable, with flushing toilets and bucket showers in an en suite bathroom, enormous wrought-iron beds and Moroccan rugs.
Days 6 - 8: Serengeti National Park Spend three days enjoying game drives from the Camp. The open plains of the Serengeti offer fantastic game viewing of cheetah, lion and elephant and it's not unheard of to see the Big Five in a day. The Mara River also offers the spectacular sightings of wildebeest river crossings. Away from the river, this area of rolling savannah, boulder-strewn hillsides and fig-tree groves, is littered with inconceivably enormous herds of wildebeest, topi and zebra - as well as all the predators that gorge on this moving feast.
Day 9: Serengeti National Park > Nairobi Fly to Nairobi to end your safari experience.
