Churchill Town & Tundra Experience with VIA Rail
Experience the beauty of Manitoba by train on VIA Rail's most northerly route, navigating through landscapes changing from prairie to rolling valleys, boreal forest to taiga and, finally, the tundra.
The track from Winnipeg to Churchill travels roughly 1,700 km (or 1,056 miles). There are some trains in the world that can cover the same distance in just 8 hours; but here in Manitoba, the journey is all part of the adventure, and our train voyage from Manitoba's capital city to the Polar Bear Capital of the World will take roughly 45 hours to complete. Day 1: Arrive Winnipeg Upon arrival into Winnipeg, please make your own way to your accommodation. Evening meet and greet hosted by your interpretive guide
Overnight at Inn at the Forks Hotel
Day 2: Winnipeg (B,L,D) Morning at leisure.
Later today make your own way to the train station across the street from your hotel, meet up with our interpretive guide and board the train to begin your first leg of the journey to Churchill.

Overnight Onboard the train - Sleeper Plus Cabin
Morning at leisure. This afternoon make your own way to the Via rail station across from your hotel to begin your first leg of the journey on Via Rail to Churchill
Day 3: On Board Via Rail (B,L,D) Continue on your journey from Winnipeg to Churchill watching the landscape beginning to change. First from prairie grasslands thich with trees to boggy muskeg with stunted growth. In the late afternoon arrive in Thompson, where you have about an hour to explore the area on your own.
Overnight: On board train - Sleeper Plus Cabin
Day 4: Churchill (B,L,D) Arriving into Churchill at 9:00 am commence on your guided bus tour of local and historical points of interest surrounding Churchill, including Cape Merry and the Manitoba Conservation's Polar Bear Holding Facility. In the afternoon participate in a dog sledding programme with a local dog musher, and take a mile long dog sled ride through the boreal forest. Finishing the da with an evening cultural presentation.
Day 5: Churchill (B,L,D) Today commence on your full day Tundra Buggy adventure in the Churchill Wildlife Management Area in search of polar bears and other subarctic wildlife while your interpretive guide points out interesting facts about the area's geology and history.
Day 6: Churchill (B,L,D) Your tour today includes a visit to Churchill's Isanitaq Museum, home to a collection on Inuit artifacts honouring the town's indigenous history and culture. Continue onto the Parks Canada Visitor Centre, which has ain in depth display that reveals the remarkable history of Churchill through wildlife dioramas, and exhibits that portray the history of the fur trade in the area.
Day 7: Churchill > Winnipeg (B,L,D) Spend another great day on the Tundra Buggy in search of wildlife, returning to Churchill and on to the airport for your evening flight back to Winnipeg.
Overnight at: Four Points by Sheraton Hotel
Day 8: Winnipeg Check out of your hotel and depart Winnipeg at your leisure.
