The "El Transcantabrico Gran Lujo" route starts in the charming town of San Sebastian and takes you on an eight day luxury train trip to Santiago de Compostela, a magnificent city in the northwest corner of Spain (or vice versa). The journey will take you along the jagged coastline of the Bay of Biscay from the Basque Country to Galicia, offering majestic landscapes, ancient culture and delicious cuisine.

The El Transcantabrico accommodates just 48 guests and runs on a narrow gauge railway with only 3 feet between rails. Four of the ten carriages are saloon cars featuring a bar and dining room. The suites have a double bed, wardrobe, writing desk, telephone and private bathroom.

Breakfast is served on the train while you pass the valleys, fjords, natural parks, bridges and fishing towns of the northern Spain coast and countryside. Lunch and dinner are taken at local restaurants served with a selection of wines. The train does not travel at night, ensuring a peaceful sleep.

Day: 1 San Sebastian > Bilbao > Karrantza Begin in the elegant city of San Sebastian with a passengers reception, lunch and city tour, before transferring to Bilbao by luxury coach to board El Transcantabrico Gran Lujo.

Day 2: Karrantza > Bilbao > Santander Journey back to dynamic Bilbao for a city tour and a visit to the famous Guggenheim Museum. Return to the train for lunch and continue to Santander, the elegant capital of Cantabria.

Day 3: Santander > Potes > Cabezon De La Sal Disembark the train at Unquera to travel by coach through La Hermida gorge to the town of Potes. After visiting this charming village, relax at La Hermida Spa.

Day 4: Cabezon De La Sal > Santillana Del Mar > Ribadesella > Arriondas This morning, visit the beautifully preserved medieval town of Santillana del Mar. Tour Altamira Neocave, an excellent example of Upper Paleolithic cave art. After lunch, return to the train to visit the village of Ribadesella en route to Arriondas.

Day 5: Arriondas > Oviedo > Candas Today visit Picos de Europa National Park and Lake Enol. After lunch, visit Oviedo. The train continues to Candas.

Day 6: Candas > Aviles > Gijon > Luarca This morning, discover ancient Aviles and Gijon, a city that opens up to the Cantabrian Sea. Return to the train and travel to the whitewashed town of Luarca.

Day 7: Luarca > Ribadeo > Viveiro Visit the historic town of Ribadeo in the Galician lands that border Asturias. In the afternoon, arrive in Viveiro for a tour and time at leisure.

Day 8: Viveiro > Santiago De Compostela While enjoying breakfast, arrive in Ferrol to disembark and transfer to Santiago de Compostela via coach. Tour this historic city, the final point of the renowned Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
