Day 1: Vancouver > Jasper (D) This afternoon, check in at Pacific Central Station and board VIA Rail's 'Canadian' for the famous train journey to the majestic Canadian Rockies. Step back in time to the days of classic rail travel, riding in the original stainless steel 'streamliner' railcars made famous by the 'Canadian' in the 1950s. Each has been restored with air conditioning, a café car, lounge car, and access to the dome car.

Departing Vancouver 3:00 pm

Exclusive to Sleeper Touring Class By day, sit back in comfortable armchairs and relax. At night, attendants will transform your quarters into cozy bunks, or a bedroom. Guests have access to the Park Car, always at the tail end of the train, whose tapered shape gives the car its distinctive look. Enjoy complimentary tea and coffee or, in the evening before dinner, complimentary hors d'oeuvres. In the Dome you'll feel the true essence of travelling by train where scene after memorable scene sweeps by. This evening retire to your Sleeping Car, where a comfortable bed awaits you. Some of the amenities include thick towels, plump pillows, cozy down duvets and a shower kit.

Day 2: Arrive Jasper (B) Arrive in Jasper at 11:00 am and transfer to your hotel. The day is free to explore this unique alpine community.

Please note: Scheduled check-in time is not until 4:00 p.m. In the event that your room is not ready, your luggage will be stored and you are free to enjoy the amenities of the hotel.

Day 3: Jasper > Banff (L) Travel by coach today via one of the most scenic highways in North America - the Icefields Parkway. Visit the Columbia Ice field that covers an area of nearly 125 sq mi (325 sq km) and reaches a depth of 1050 ft (320 m). Time allows for an Ice Explorer ride (included) on the Athabasca Glacier, then a stop at the award-winning Glacier Skywalk (included) to experience a glass-floored observation platform 918 ft (280 m) over spectacular glacier-formed valleys and rushing waterfalls. After, continue along the Ice field Parkway where stops will be made at Lake Louise, Bow Lake, the Crowfoot Glacier and the Athabasca Falls. This highway is renowned for sightings of bears, elk, moose & mountain sheep, so keep your camera handy. Please note: mountain lakes in this region will be frozen through to mid-June. (picnic lunch included today)

Day 4: Morning sightseeing tour of Banff with Gondola This morning, tour the town of Banff and its environs. Among the highlights are visits to the Hoodoos (shaped by centuries of wind) & Bow Valley Viewpoint, Surprise Corner, Bow Falls, Lake Minnewanka and Bankhead: an abandoned mining town and the relic of Banff's industrial past. At the end of the tour you will be taken to the Banff Gondola for a breathtaking ascent to the pinnacle of Sulphur Mountain for an awe inspiring 360-degree panorama of sheer mountain majesty. Return to downtown Banff at your leisure. (transfer not included)

Day 5: Banff > Jasper This morning is at leisure to explore Banff, early afternoon depart Banff on the express coach to Jasper arriving early evening.

Day 6 Jasper > Prince George (L,D) Today, embark on a memorable rail journey across British Columbia's Cariboo Region to the waters of the Pacific Ocean. Pass the cloud veiled peak of Mount Robson and watch the horizons widen as the train descends from the Rockies onto the rugged interior plateau. The northern arm of the Fraser River leads to Prince George.

Day 7: Prince George > Prince Rupert (L) Continuing west, enjoy the rugged beauty and pioneering character of a landscape once solely traveled by First Nation people and fur traders. The train follows the turbulent currents of the Skeena River and meanders through spectacular canyons and open valleys in the presence of ever present mountain ridges.

Depart Prince George: 9:45 am Arrive Prince Rupert: 6:30 pm

Overnight at: Prestige Prince Rupert Hotel - Standard Room

Day 8: Prince Rupert > Port Hardy (Ferry) Welcome to the glorious Inside Passage, a paradise for photographers and wildlife enthusiasts. Sail to Vancouver Island through a maze of enchanting islands, relishing the ever-changing vistas of deep fjords, densely forested shorelines, massive ice-flows and jagged inlets. Watch bald eagles soaring overhead, sea lions slumbering on the rocks and whales traversing the offshore waters.

Depart Prince Rupert: 7:30 am Arrive Port Hardy 11:30 pm

Overnight at: Quarter Deck Inn - Standard Room

Day 9: Port Hardy > Vancouver (Flight) This morning depart on a scheduled flight to Vancouver. Upon arrival in Vancouver your Northern BC Explorer package ends.
