In the Cape Winelands, appreciate the many delightful towns and villages and get a taste of not only stunning wines but farm to table cuisine and rural hospitality at a working farm-hotel. Finish with a stay at andBeyond Ngala Private Game Reserve, home to all of the Big Five wildlife, but particularly known for its elephant, buffalo and rhino, as well as its packs of African wild dog, leopard and cheetah. Tailored with families in mind, the accommodation is geared to family travel, large comfy vehicles on transfers, some family-focus on the sightseeing so that the kids are interested and learning at the same time!
Day 1 Cape Town On arrival at Cape Town International Airport you will be met by our local guide and transferred by private vehicle to your apartment. Enjoy four nights at the African Elite Waterfront Apartments in a 2 bedroom luxury apartment. Set within Cape Town's renowned V&A Waterfront, innovative and stylish self-catering apartments are meters from a plethora of restaurants, shops and entertainment venues. Clean, well-kept apartments are serviced daily, and a laundry and dry cleaning service is provided. Tourist information facilities and a dedicated concierge are on hand to guide you to the best restaurants at the Waterfront.
Day 2 Cape Town This morning your guide will collect you for your private half day Table Mountain & city tour. Explore the scenic city of Cape Town that begins with a ride on the revolving cable car up to the top of iconic Table Mountain. Marvel at spectacular views over the city and the entire Cape Peninsula as you stroll along its flat top or, if the weather is not favourable, explore the smaller peak known as Signal Hill. From here, travel to Company Gardens, set up in the 17th century as a fresh produce garden used to supply ships stopping in the harbour and now home to the SA Museum, Cultural History Museum, Houses of Parliament, National Gallery and St George's Cathedral.
Next, witness one of Cape Town's oldest traditions as you head up to Signal Hill for the firing of the noonday gun. From here, you will visit the traditional Malay Quarter, situated in the predominantly Muslim Bo-Kaap. Admire the area's brightly coloured houses, which date back as far as the 17th century and get a glimpse into one of the Cape's many vibrant cultures. After your tour you will be returned to your hotel.
Day 3 Cape Town Today's family adventure takes in the scenic highlights of the Cape Peninsula, beginning at the spectacular coastal suburb of Hout Bay, a former fishing village with a long, sandy beach facing a bay framed by the mountains. Explore the restaurants, shops and markets of Mariner's Wharf, a harbour-front emporium with a distinct maritime ambiance. Depending on whether the road is open, the tour will continue along the breath-taking Chapman's Peak Drive before heading to the Cape of Good Hope to explore the nature reserve, see the Diaz Cross and perhaps even indulge in lunch at a local restaurant. From here you will travel to Simon's Town, famous for its naval military base, and then visit the charming penguin colony at Boulders Beach. Your tour ends at the beautiful Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, set against the eastern slopes of spectacular Table Mountain.
Day 4 Cape Town - Cape Winelands This morning you will be collected from your hotel for your private full day family-focused Cape Winelands tour, including lunch.
Combine wine tasting for the adults with a range of activities designed to keep the children happy on this family tour of the picturesque Cape Winelands. Stops will include visits to the University town of Stellenbosch and the pretty little village of Franschhoek where you will ride the fun and casual Wine Tram taking you around the countryside to various vineyards including some that make the most incredible desserts and cheeses! After your tour you will be transferred to Babylonstoren Farm Hotel. Accommodation is in a two bedroom Farm Cottage.
Day 5 Cape Winelands At leisure. The farm has a beautiful dam, just a short bicycle ride through the vineyards where you are welcome to take the canoes out for a leisurely paddle. The hotel pool is also very unique, a restored farm reservoir and perfect for hot summer days. Every morning at 8h00, there is a guided walk around the farm with one of the gardeners, who takes guests up to the koppie (hill), through the fynbos area and the vlei (wetland), on to the citrus orchards and back past the dam.
The farm is a paradise for children with resident geese, chickens (where they can collect eggs) and beloved donkeys, Meisiekind and Lulu. The donkeys live near to the Farm Shop and love nothing better than a snack of bread. Young guests are invited to help feed the donkeys and to help harvest fruit and vegetables from our gardens, especially for the breakfast table.
Day 6 Cape Winelands - Cape Town - Kruger National Park After check out you will be met by our representative who will transfer you to Cape Town International Airport for your onward journey. (Flight between Cape Town & Hoedspruit is included). Upon arrival at Hoedspruit Airport you will be met by a member of the andBeyond Ngala Safari Lodge team and transferred with fellow guests to the lodge - a drive of approximately 45 to 60 minutes.
Spend three nights in a Family Cottage at andBeyond Ngala Safari Lodge. This old-world haven in the midst of the African bush charms with its colonial antiques, silver cutlery and crystal glassware. Style and grace mingle faultlessly with the rugged natural beauty of the setting, as manicured lawns give way to dense mopane thickets and wild animals saunter down to drink at the waterhole that forms the heart of this authentic safari lodge. The main thatched dining, bar and sitting areas are open to the African bushveld, and the large swimming pool looks out over a busy waterhole where elephants are frequently sighted. Delicious Pan-African cuisine is served in the candle- and lantern-lit courtyard or in the dramatic boma (outdoor dining area). Exceptional bush meals are enjoyed in spectacular settings in the African wilderness.
Day 7-8 Kruger National Park Enjoy time relaxing and partaking in safari activities. The "Big Five" game drives are led by expert rangers and a Shangaan tracker in open 4x4 safari vehicles. Ngala offers both off-road and night game drives affording excellent sightings and photographic opportunities. Discover a host of interesting nocturnal animals on exhilarating, spotlit night game drives, or explore Ngala's intriguing fauna and flora on interactive bush walks led by an experienced ranger or expert Shangaan tracker. Guided bush walks bring you face-to-face with wild Africa at its best, allowing fascinating insights into the landscape, animal tracks and a host of interesting birds, reptiles, insects and tiny mammals.
