Madikwe Game Reserve
• Madikwe Game Reserve • Luxurious safari style accommodation • Malaria free
Madikwe Game Reserve is a 75 000 hectare reserve located northwest of Johannesburg along the Botswana border. The malaria-free reserve boasts more than 60 mammal species including the Big Five. Everything about it is vast - its landscapes, its heavens, its wildlife. Spend your days enjoying game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, on specialised walking trails with qualified guides or birding safaris.
Madikwe Safari Lodge offers three luxury lodges, Lelapa, Kopano and Dithaba Lodge each with its own appeal. Lelapa Lodge is for families, where children of all ages are welcome. 12 Deluxe Suites (including family rooms) are spacious & comfortable, with wood-burning fireplaces, private plunge pools and outdoor showers. Kopano Lodge comprises just 4 Suites (each with private plunge pool) which share a magnificent common area. This Lodge is ideal for the person looking for something more intimate, or for smaller groups of friends. Children older than 16 welcome. Dithaba Lodge has a spectacular view over the open plains. With only 4 Suites (each with private plunge pool), this Lodge is well suited to a group of friends or family members making it their own while on safari. Or for those who simply prefer the sound of nature and little else. Children of all ages welcome (if the Lodge is booked exclusively).
Day 1: Madikwe Game Reserve Arrival in Madikwe, by charter flight, or by 3 and a half hour drive from Johannesburg. Spend three nights at Madikwe Safari Lodge where you can choose from three luxury lodges, Lelapa, Kopano and Dithaba Lodge each with their special differences.
Days 2 & 3: Madikwe Game Reserve Over the next 2 days enjoy game drives by 4x4 vehicle, specialized walking trails with qualified guides, birding and photographic safaris.
Madikwe's location close to the edge of the Kalahari Desert means there's an overlap of a number of species, offering visitors greater viewing diversity. Our luxurious lodges offer unique safari experiences, catering to both families looking to reconnect in a peaceful setting, as well as couples looking for a more intimate bush experience.
Apart from the unique surroundings and comfortable, well-appointed accommodation, twice-daily safari game drives into the 75 000-hectare Madikwe Game Reserve are the highlights of staying at Madikwe Safari Lodge.
Safari game drives take place when the likelihood of sightings is at its highest - early morning and late afternoon. Winters are dry and evening temperatures may drop to 0 degrees celsius, while the wet summers are characterised by daily highs of up to 38 degree celsius. Game drives take into account these shifts in temperature to ensure that guests are in no discomfort while out on a drive.
The field guides of Madikwe prefer to focus on the "Top 10" rather than the Big Five. So, in addition to boasting the sought-after African species of lion, buffalo, leopard, elephant and rhino (both black and white), malaria-free Madikwe is also home to hippo, giraffe, wild dog, hyena (spotted and brown) and cheetah. Of these, the cheetah, wild dog, brown hyena and black rhino are the most endangered species.
Day 4: Madikwe Game Reserve Depart by self-drive or charter flight (not included).
