Introduction
Namibia is a vast, sparsely populated country with rewarding pockets of endemism in its enormous wilderness.
By day enjoy the majestic rusty dunes of Sossusvlei and at night be enchanted by the desert sky. The vastness of Damaraland will astound you as will the desert-adapted wildlife. The last stop is Etosha National Park – famed for its large herds of game and great predator viewing to go with it. The camps are set within private concessions and you will be transferred by air seamlessly between destinations.
Let us tailor-make your itinerary to include travel arrangements before and/or after your stay.
Itinerary
Day 1 : Windhoek > Sossuvlei
Depart from Windhoek by air and enjoy awe-inspiring views of the mountains and the desert floor. Fly to Sossusvlei for two nights at a beautiful lodge.
Afternoon is at leisure. Enjoy many of the activities offered at your lodge, including: wildlife-viewing, sundowner stops in scenic parts of the reserve and optional hot air balloon ride (at additional cost).
Day 2 : Sossuvlei
This morning you will rise early for a magical shared excursion into the Namib Naukluft National Park where you will have great photography opportunities. Your local guide will give you an insight on the formation of the Namib Desert and its myriad of fascinating creatures and plants that have adapted to survive these harsh environs. Once you have explored the areas around Sossusvlei and Deadvlei to your hearts content you can enjoy a picnic in the shade of a camel thorn tree.
Return to your lodge and spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure.
Day 3 : Sossuvlei > Damaraland
This morning transfer into the heart of Damaraland via Swakopmund. Time permitting, the afternoon can be spent enjoying a shared activity as offered by the camp.
Enjoy optional activities such as nature drives and walks while further afield, ancient rock art, and geological wonders dot the area. The spacious areas of your accommodation also provide opportunity for calm evenings and incredible stargazing.
Damaraland is typified by displays of colour, magnificent table topped mountains, rock formations and bizarre-looking vegetation. The present day landscape has been formed by the erosion of wind, water and geological forces which have formed rolling hills, dunes, gravel plains and ancient river terraces.
Here you can also learn more about the different communities that have lived in this area such as the Damara and Herero, as well as the Himba people – semi-nomadic herders whose female members distinctly cover their hair and skin with ochre colored paste.
Day 4 : Damaraland
After an early breakfast you will be treated to an exciting 4X4 game drive along the ephemeral Aba Huab and Huab River valley to explore this remarkable region.Look out for the elusive desert adapted elephants.
You will also have the option to take a picnic lunch and stop to enjoy the landscape and wildlife in the shade of a Ana tree. Return to your accommodation and enjoy time at leisure to explore the nearby town or just relax.
Day 5 : Damaraland > Southern Etosha
Transfer to Etosha National Park. The fight reveals the considerable contrast of the stark and rocky scenery of Damaraland and the Kaokoveld and the richer woodland areas and grassy plains of wildlife-rich Ungava and Etosha.
With easy access by road or air, Etosha National Park is one of Africa’s most established and sought after national parks. From open plains to arid savanna and some of the best game viewing around, this park has a lot going for it. In the late dry season animals congregate in the hundreds around the many water sources, queuing to quench their thirst. When the rains arrive the area is transformed, bringing a plethora of birdlife that comes to take advantage of ideal feeding conditions.
Day 6 : Southern Etosha
Today you will be treated to an exciting morning guided game drive into the Etosha National Park, to see more of the wide variety of game and bird species that are to be found there before returning to Ongava Game Reserve for a late lunch.
There is then time to relax by the refreshing swimming pool before you head out for an afternoon game drive on the private game reserve.
Day 7 : Southern Etosha > Windhoek
After breakfast you will be transferred to Windhoek airport where arrangements conclude.
