Introduction
Ol Donyo Lodge is set deep in the wilderness between Amboseli and Tsavo National Parks.
Perched on a hillside, the lodge has fantastic views of Mount Kilimanjaro and out across the classic savannahs below. Following a recent refurbishment, ol Donyo Lodge now offers eight Deluxe Suites (all with similar interior layouts) and the 2-Bedroom Sambu Suite that is perfect for a family or two couples travelling together! All suites have plunge pools and stunning star beds, where you can sleep out under the canopy of stars and listen to the hyenas and lions. Constructed of local thatch the suites blend seamlessly with the environment.
You will be spoilt for choice on how to spend your days at Ol Donyo! Choose from cultural visits, game drives (complete with Swarovski 8 x 42 binoculars!) hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking. Add to this the lodge’s creature comforts of fine dining, massage, infinity pool, star beds and multiple lounges, and it is a place to relax and unwind for days on end.
After Ol Donyo, you fly back to Nairobi and then to the Mara Plains Camp. You will take an unparalleled adventure into one of the most iconic wildlife destinations on the planet, where the battle for survival plays out in front of you each and every day.
The Mara Plains Camp is located in the heart of the 35,000-acre Olare Motorogi Conservancy, in the middle of one of the richest wild ecosystems in the world. The design of Mara Plains is one of understatement and quiet class. The decor pays homage to the essence of East Africa and its chief influences – Maasai and Arab culture. Ancient Swahili heritage is reflected in large wooden doors from the coastal island of Lamu, and accents of deep red and purple honour the great Maasai chiefs and warriors. Add to this cultural melting pot a nod to the colonial era, with rich leathers, copper and brass used in expedition-style campaign furniture and you have a lavish, residential atmosphere which complements the surrounding wilderness. One of only five camps on the Olare Motorogi Conservancy, guests at Mara Plains have unrivalled access to more than 100,000 acres of exclusive land, home to extensive areas of important habitat for a vast number of wildlife species, while still having access to the Maasai Mara’s additional 375,000 acres.
Itinerary
Day 1 : Nairobi > Ol Donyo
Arrive at Wilson Airport in Nairobi and check in for your onward flight to Tsavo West Airstrip. Tsavo is the largest national park in Kenya, and here you will enjoy a three night stay at Ol Donyo Lodge. From high-altitude mist forest through to lava fields, then woodland to savannah, and ending at the famous kopjes, Ol Donyo is a paradise of discovery.
Days 2 & 3 : Ol Donyo
Each day, choose your mode of transport, be it on foot, by vehicle, on horseback or even by bike. There is no routine here and experiences are tailor-made for each guest. You can also simply laze around the pool, indulge in a massage, or go shopping. Another option is to meet the local Maasai and visit the school for a closer look at what makes the country of Kenya so colorful and dynamic.
