Expect to be mesmerized by the sight of its vast mountains and deep green valleys, complete with roaming llamas. As the scenery changes from ancient towns to lush cloud forest, the sense of adventure and discovery is unparalleled.
Belmond Hiram Bingham: In its Pullman-style carriages you’ll find polished wood, sumptuous upholstered armchairs and beautiful antique fittings. Surrender to old-world charm in our vintage carriages, where shining wood furnishings and polished brass details harmonise with nature-inspired motifs.
This itinerary can be tailor-made, with the number of days, places visited, and activities varied to suit you.
Itinerary
Day 1 : Cuzco
You will be met and transferred to Palacio del Inka, a Luxury Collection Hotel perfectly situated very close to the main square. Your hotel boasts a unique, captivating design that embraces traditional aspects of Peruvian culture while providing world-class luxury and modern conveniences. Each room and suites features colonial decor and a rich color palette that evokes local heritage. Spend the rest of the day relaxing and acclimatising to the altitude.
Day 2 : Cuzco
Enjoy a private Cuzco sightseeing tour that includes a visit to the iconic local San Pedro Market, followed by the exquisite examples of Inca stonework found at Koricancha, in Inca times known as the Temple of the Sun. Visit Cuzco’s Cathedral, full of priceless art treasures and beautiful altars of silver and precious stones. Continue to the impressive Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman where enormous shaped stones weighing up to 130 tons fit together so neatly you can’t get a knife blade in-between them. Enjoy great views over the city and learn about Inti Raymi, the ancient Inca Festival of the Sun that is held here every winter solstice. The afternoon is free to explore Cuzco at your own pace.
Day 3 : Cuzco > Sacred Valley > Cuzco
A fascinating full day private tour to the scenic Sacred Valley of the Incas. Visit the traditional weavers at Chincheros and learn more of their craft, which remains almost unchanged since Inca times. Continue to the amazing centuries-old salt extraction ponds at Maras and the mysterious Inca site of Moray with its circular agricultural terraces. A delicious lunch incorporating local delicacies is enjoyed, along with a Peruvian Paso horse show, a cultural icon dating back to the days of the Spanish. Later you will be in awe of the magnificent Inca fortress at Ollantaytambo, scene of one of the last great battles between the conquistadors and the army of the Inca. Return to Cuzco for the night.
Day 4 : Cuzco > Machu Picchu
Today, enjoy luxury service aboard Belmond’s Hiram Bingham train to Machu Picchu and on arrival you will be taken on a sightseeing tour of the citadel. Undiscovered until 1911, Machu Picchu more than justifies its title as one of the ‘New Seven Wonders of the World’. Learn about the history, architecture and lifestyle of the inhabitants as your guide takes you through this incredible site. Afterwards return to nearby Aguas Calientes to stay overnight in an award-winning luxury hotel set in a lovely five-hectare garden. Perhaps enjoy an early evening dip in the hot mineral spring found at the hotel before dinner.
Day 5 : Machu Picchu > Cuzco
Your morning is free to either revisit the iconic Machu Picchu (second entry available at an additional cost) or explore the charming town and vibrant markets of Aguas Calientes. Your hotel also offers several complimentary guided tours for those seeking further exploration.
In the afternoon, board the luxurious Belmond Hiram Bingham train, heading towards Rio Sagrado (January to April) or Poroy Station, Cuzco (May to December). During your journey (May to December), indulge in a sumptuous four-course dinner, complete with drinks and live entertainment. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the exquisite Palacio del Inka, a Luxury Collection Hotel, for your overnight stay.
Day 6 : Cuzco
You will be transferred by private car to Cuzco Airport for departure where arrangements end.
