Itinerary
Day 1 : Arusha > Karatu
You will be picked up from Kilimanjaro International Airport for the drive to Gibb’s Farm which lies halfway between Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater near the Village of Karatu. En route you will enjoy lunch at a restaurant in Arusha. Dinner and overnight at Gibb’s Farm. Surrounded by lush tropical flowers and trees, Gibb’s Farm overlooks a coffee plantation. The forest of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area starts behind the lodge and terraced gardens afford panoramic views towards the Great Rift Escarpment. Mid-way between Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, this lovely old colonial farmhouse retains its original character and charm with roaring fires and friendly service.
Day 2 : Karatu
After breakfast, enjoy the activities offered at the farm. You may choose to relax and recharge, explore the diverse natural surroundings, or learn more about the local culture and traditions. Overnight at Gibb’s Farm.
Day 3 : Ngorongoro Crater, Ngorongoro Conservation Area
After breakfast drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area with a packed lunch. Ngorongoro Crater is the largest intact caldera in the world. Its enduring charm stems from its overwhelming physical beauty and the abundance of wildlife permanently resident of the crater floor. On arrival you will be taken 600 m down the crater by a 4-wheel drive vehicle. Enjoy your packed lunch at the base of the crater. Leisurely ascent back to the rim of the crater before driving back for dinner and overnight at Gibb’s Farm.
December to March
Day 4 : Karatu > Ndutu region, Ngorongoro Conservation Area
After breakfast, drive to the Ndutu region in the west of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, near the southern border of Serengeti National Park. En route you will enjoy game viewing arriving in time for lunch. With nine tents, Lemala Ndutu Tented Camp is perched on the edge of a permanent marsh and acts as the ultimate amphitheatre to capture the boundless drama that accompanies the migration. After lunch, you will enjoy an afternoon game drive. The Ndutu area is classic savannah, characterized by flat grassy plains, and the camp is situated in one of the finest locations in Ndutu to see the migration between December and March. Tens of thousands of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle usually arrive in December to graze on the newly watered, highly nutritious short grass plains, and then by February, the main calving season takes place. Predators – especially the big cats – are highly concentrated in the Ndutu area in these months. Overnight at Lemala Ndutu Tented Camp.
