Introduction
The Lares Trail through some of the most beautiful scenery in Peru, offers a wonderful alternative to the more heavily traversed Inca Trail.
There are a myriad of historical sites and cultural attractions along the way, including weavers attired in colourful dress, roving herds of alpacas, traditional villages and farmers working their land as they have done for millennia. Stay in excellent mountain lodges with private facilities, which serve as a comfortable base camp for day hikes. There is choice of activities available to suit every level of fitness, age and physical ability.
Two programs (7 day and 5 day) are designed to offer different hikes daily for a variety of experience and abilities.
Preparing for the trip
We recommend that guests spend a minimum 2 nights in Cuzco prior to the commencement of their adventure – World Journeys can assist with booking your pre-adventure accommodations. These additional nights help with your acclimatisation to the altitude and provide an opportunity to explore the beautiful city of Cuzco. Travellers can feel the effects of higher altitudes as low as 2000 metres above sea level. Therefore, we encourage guests to get fit before the trip, particularly with aerobic activities like walking, running, swimming, or cycling. Please contact your physician before booking this trek to assess your physical condition and for their advice on how best to prepare to fully enjoy your trekking experience.
