Introduction
Cruise the Brazilian Amazon from Manaus aboard the 9-cabin motor yacht Tucano.
It small agile size (25 m) allows you to leave the main tourist paths far behind, exploring the most remote reaches.
Venture among the remote tributaries of the Amazon, principally the Rio Negro River, into Jau National Park. Explore by foot, by kayak, or on skiffs to where the magnificent plants and animals reign supreme. You’ll also visit the Encontro das Aguas (Meeting of the Waters), the confluence of the Rio Negro and Solimoes Rivers. Also enjoy cultural visits with locals, wildlife spotting by night with nocturnal creatures, and Brazilian Caipirinha Night (cocktails and samba!).
Your ship: the M/Y Tucano
Everything about this vessel, from design to operations, is about allowing guests to truly experience this wild environment. Although not a luxury vessel, the Tucano offers comfortable air-conditioned accommodation in a selection of 9 outside cabins, all with private ensuite bathrooms. The large observation deck is a wonderful place to spot wildlife, and a generous salon serves as a dining room and lounge, with wonderful views of the rainforest.
Cabins:
Yellow cabin: A total of five spacious cabin featuring large windows, two single beds, a small night table and private bathrooms. Beds can also be converted into a queen size bed.
Blue cabin: perfect for single travellers, these cabins feature a single twin bed, large windows, private bathroom and space for personal items. These cabins can also be converted into “green cabins” with bunk bed layout on request.
Green cabin: There are two staterooms in this category each featuring comfortable bunk beds with large windows and private bathrooms.
Itinerary
Days 1-3 : Manaus
On joining the group, passengers board the vessel a short walk from the lobby of the Hotel Tropical, Manaus.
In our well-equipped expedition boat The Motor Yacht Tucano, we explore far up the least inhabited river in the Amazon, The Rio Negro. We explore the forest by foot or in our launches, go for swims in the cleanest water in the world, visit with local settlers that live deep in the forest, and spend a great deal of time hunting for and observing the greatest collection of wildlife on earth.
Day 4 : Amazon cruising
We arrive at an extraordinary river called the Rio Jauaperi and spend the day in this unspoiled and lovely rainforest area.
Day 5 : Amazon cruising
Today we will voyage to the west side of the Rio Negro and continue to scout in our launches and walk in the forest. We will explore according to the weather and water depth areas rarely visited by anyone else. Tonight, the M/Y Tucano goes downstream and river depth permitting, will enter an east bank affluent of the Rio Negro and explore deep into the rainforest on this small river. After our nocturnal exploration of the rainforest in our launches and we return to the Motor Yacht Tucano for “Caipirinha Night” on and perhaps try a bit of samba on the top deck.
Day 6 : Amazon cruising
We begin the day with a dawn excursion hunting for wakening wildlife followed by a full Brazilian breakfast. We will then go one last time into the forest. In the mid-afternoon, we will begin to journey downstream to arrive late in the day at the “Encontra das Aguas” a stark several-mile-long line where two of the world’s largest rivers, the Amazon and the Rio Negro join in a turbulent maelstrom. Here the dark water of the Negro runs beside the opaque brown water of the Amazon.
At sunset, the M/Y Tucano will once again turn her bows upstream on the Rio Negro and journey to our overnight anchorage north of the City of Manaus. As we pass in front of Manaus, we will marvel at the scale of one of the world’s largest and most vibrant port cities, that is over one thousand miles from the sea. Tonight, we will have a farewell dinner and prepare for an early departure in the morning.
Day 7 : Amazon cruising
After breakfast you will disembark from the cruise where arrangements conclude.
