Vanch-Yakh Glacier: considered the longest glacier outside of the polar regions, stretching roughly 77km through the Pamir Mountains.
Khujand: Set at the entrance to the Fergana Valley it is has a long history of Silk Road significance with highlights including the Khujand Fortress, Panjshanbe Bazaar, along with religious and historical complexes.
Iskanderful Lake: located around 4 hours from Dushanbe, the lake is famous for its turquoise waters and spectacular rugged alpine scenery, travellers can enjoy hiking trails, panoramic viewpoints with stays in quaint guest houses and cabins.
We recommend visiting Tajikistan during Spring (March to May) or beginning of Autum (September to October). If combining city and cultural activities with mountain trekking, the best time to visit Tajikistan is between April and late May, when temperatures are mild and evenings are cooler. Avoid June-July as is peak heat season and temperatures won’t be welcoming, especially in the cities.
Currency: the official currency is the Tajik Somoni
Language: Tajiki is the official language, while Russian serves as a public relations and commerce language. English is not widely spoken in the country.
Cultural aspects: Tajikistan was once part of the ancient Persian Empire and up until today it shares deep cultural traditions. Nomadic practices, values around community and hospitality are also part of the Tajik society.
Festivals & events: The main festival is Navruz, celebrated around March, and marks the ancient Persian New Year and the spring equinox. Enjoy street parties, traditional music and various sports events and special dishes. The “Roof of the World” festival is held in July in the city of Khorong. Boat racing, cultural performances and other festivities take over the streets of Khorong.
Heatlh: There are currently no health requirements entering Tajikistan however some vaccinations may be recommended by your doctor.
