Introduction
Cruise through the scenic fjords of Tierra del Fuego, highlighting the splendour and beauty of Patagonia and some of its most important historical sites.
These cruises complement land based Patagonian tours perfectly as they take you to remote and beautiful destinations only reachable by sea!
Highlights include: Wildlife rich Ainsworth Bay, Pia Glacier, Glacier Alley, mystical Wulaia Bay and the legendary Cape Horn.
Your Ship: Australis vessels are specially designed to access the most remote corners of the Strait of Magellan, where larger vessels cannot navigate. Small on the outside and spacious on the inside The M/V Stella Australis and her new sister-ship, the M/V Ventus Australis are extremely comfortable 200-passenger expedition vessels offering a range of cabin categories, outstanding naturalist guides and superb cuisine. Spacious cabins, all of which overlook the exterior, both ships have been carefully decorated, offering maximum interior comfort and spectacular views from virtually all parts of the ship.
Itinerary
Punta Arenas to Ushuaia itinerary
Day 1 : Punta Arenas > Beagle Channel
Afternoon embarkation onto your very comfortable cruise ship. Before settling into your cabin, enjoy a welcome toast and meet the Captain and the crew. The ship will sail to the far south through the mythical Beagle Channel and the Strait of Magellan.
Day 2 : Ainsworth Bay > Tucker Inlet
Morning excursion to visit a beaver dam and elephant seals. Walk through mystical Magellanic temperate rainforest. Afternoon zodiac ride to spot more penguins.
Day 3 : Pia Fjord > Glacier Alley
A day of incredible scenery as you navigate the northwest arm of the Beagle Channel, which is famous for its impressive ‘Glacier Alley’. Here glaciers tumble from the mountaintops towards the sea.
Day 4 : Cape Horn > Wulaia Bay
Arrive at the Cape Horn National Park, and if weather conditions are suitable, you will experience the magic of walking through one of the southernmost points of the world. In the afternoon, disembark at historic Wulaia Bay, just as Charles Darwin did in 1833. This is an area renowned for mesmerising beauty in both vegetation and landscape.
Day 5 : Ushuaia
Arrive Ushuaia this morning where arrangements end.
Ushuaia to Punta Arenas Itinerary
Day 1 : Ushuaia

Day 3 : Pia Fjord > Glacier Alley
A day of incredible scenery as you navigate the northwest arm of the Beagle Channel, which is famous for its impressive ‘Glacier Alley’. Here glaciers tumble from the mountaintops towards the sea. During the afternoon, in your Zodiac boats, you will navigate between high rocky walls until reaching the Porter Glacier.
Day 4 : Glacier Alley > Agostini Sound > Aguila Glacier > Condor Glacier
In the morning, navigate the Cockburn Channel to enter the Agostini Sound, where you can appreciate the glaciers that descend from the center of the Darwin Mountain Range, some of them reaching the sea. During the morning, you will disembark in Zodiac boats for a walk around a lagoon formed by the melting of the Aguila Glacier. In the afternoon, you will navigate in Zodiac boats to approach the Condor Glacier, and learn about the formation of glaciers and their influence on the abrupt geography of the Fuegian channels.
Day 5 : Condor Glacier > Magdalena Island > Punta Arenas
Before arriving in Punta Arenas, if weather conditions are suitable, you will disembark at Magdalena Island where you will be able to see a huge colony of Magellanic penguins. Then, you will arrive in Punta Arenas where arrangements end.
NB: This excursion is replaced by a landing on Marta Island in September and April, where South American sea lions can be sighted from Zodiac boats.
