Introduction
The Andean Explorer, a Belmond Train, is South America’s first luxury sleeper train, transporting just 46 guests through Peru in style.
Travel between Cuzco to Arequipa in luxury and style, savouring unforgettable indulgence as you are whisked through Peru’s most spectacular destinations, including the spellbinding Lake Titicaca. Inviting, indulgent accommodation and refined Andean cuisine guests can also enjoy the observatory, lounge, spa and two dining cars.
The Train: Twin or double cabins offer a soothing blend of signature Peruvian accents and in-built oxygen for additional comfort at high altitudes. All cabins feature en suite bathroom with shower, washbasin and water closet, wardrobe, air conditioning, oxygen tanks and masks, robe and slippers, medical assistance onboard.
Bunk Bed Cabins: These cozy cabins are 5.5 sqm in size featuring a long banquette that transforms into comfortable upper and lower single berths.
Twin Bed Cabins: During the day, these 7.4 sqm cabins are configured with a long banquette and comfy seats. Stewards convert this into two ground-level single beds come nightfall.
Suite Cabins: These 13.1 sqm cabins feature a plush double bed and cozy seating area with two chairs and a table. They are also fitted with a compact wardrobe, en suite with shower, and washbasin.
Itinerary
Day 1 : Cuzco
Embark this morning aboard the Belmond Andean Explorer train in Cuzco ready for your 11.00am departure. Settle down and unwind in your luxurious cabin as the train begins its journey southeast towards Puno. Savour your first lunch on board in one of the two elegant dining cars. Refined Andean specialities are served with contemporary flair.
After lunch, disembark to visit Raqchi, once an important control point for the Incas, it is today a fascinating archaeological site alive with history. Return to the train in time for afternoon tea. Soak up the sensational sunset over the La Raya Mountain range, before preparing yourself for an elegant dinner on board. Afterwards, perhaps head to the bar car and chat to your fellow travellers as the train continues to Lake Titicaca, where it will stable for the evening.
Day 2 : Lake Titicaca
Awake early to catch the breathtaking sunrise across Lake Titicaca, before enjoying a delicious breakfast on board the train. Today’s tours explore the eclectic beauty and rich diversity of life on Lake Titicaca, the largest lake in South America and home to many islands. First you’ll take a traditional boat ride out to the Uros Islands, stunning man-made lands carefully created from woven reeds that are constantly being replenished. Enjoy lunch on board and depart for the Saracocha lagoon. On the way enjoy cocktails and canapes. Arrive in Saracocha and enjoy another delicious dinner on board this evening, before retiring to your cabin for a nights rest.
Day 3 : Arequipa
Enjoy breakfast before setting off on an excursion to the Sumbay Caves, home to fascinating cave paintings that estimated to be almost 8,000 years old. Return to the train for lunch as the trains continues to Arequipa arriving there at 3.30 pm. Here we bid farewell as you disembark. An optional guided transfer to the airport is available; you’ll enjoy a panoramic view of the city and arrive at the airport at approximately 6:00pm.
NB: You may choose to leave the train earlier today at 11.30 am and take an optional tour to explore Colca Canyon at an additional cost. A sweeping area of breathtaking beauty and one of the world’s deepest canyons, you’ll spot countless example of Inca and pre-Inca architecture alongside alpacas, eagles and the mighty Andean condor. Additional supplement applies.
