Itinerary
Day 1 : Nuuk
Upon arrival in Nuuk Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Later join a tour to the now abandoned village of Kangeq and the site of the first settlement in Greenland – the Island of Hope. Starting from the harbour you will sail to Kangeq. This former whaling village was abandoned in the 1970s as part of the government’s repatriation scheme as they consolidated of the population centers of Greenland. Wander around the open-air museum of Kangeq and imagine what life was like, before we set sail for the Island of Hope. Continue sailing around the Nuuk Fjord before returning to your hotel.
Day 2 : Nuuk > Ilulissat
After breakfast enjoy a private transfer to Nuuk Airport to catch your flight to Ilulissat. Upon arrival, a shuttle will take you to your hotel. Ilulissat, located on Greenland’s western coast, is renowned for its breathtaking ice fjords and vibrant Inuit culture, making it an exceptional destination for adventure and exploration.
In the afternoon, join a historical and cultural walking tour through Ilulissat. Explore the town’s old city centre and delve into 300 years of fascinating history above the Arctic Circle.
Day 3 : Ilulissat > Eqi Glacier
From Ilulissat you will sail half-day through the Icefjord to the Eqi Glacier – watch out for the whales!
This afternoon you join a hike that takes you to the edge of the Delta. We have flora and fauna in focus when we walk past the French hut and continue towards the impressive Delta. Here the landscape opens, and you get a fantastic view of the delta. Here the greyish meltwater from the ice sheet rushes out into a branched network of small rivers to eventually open into the bay.
Walk on small paths along the coast and keep an eye on the possibility of spotting snow hares, polar foxes, bell flowers and marsh Labrador Tea. You might even catch a glimpse of the sea eagles, which often build nests on the cliff edge. An amazing easy hike, where you will find breathtaking views of the Eqi glacier. The nature in Eqi calls for immersion and relaxation and you might want to enjoy sauna, explore the area and go on hikes or just relax in your cabin.
Day 4 : Eqi > Ilulissat
Today in the afternoon, you leave on your boat ride back to Ilulissat and civilisation. On board the boat there is a small café and staff, you can enjoy the peace of the fjord and the sounds of the incredible icebergs both from the inside and the outside of the boat. Return to Ilulissat and check in.
Day 5 : Eqi > Ilulissat
Today you go on a tour to a culture-historical and breathtakingly beautiful, abandoned village. Sermermiut was once an Inuit settlement, going 4400 years back in time, and is located in the protected UNESCO Heritage site.
The fascinating cultural history and beautiful view over Ilulissat Icefjord make this tour something very special you do not want to miss out on. In the afternoon you have a unique opportunity to enjoy a cosy and relaxing fishing trip in Greenland’s magnificent nature.
