Introduction
On this itinerary onboard La Dolce Vita Orient Express, set off from Rome to discover the splendors of Matera and its UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Orient Express has luxury running through its veins. This grand history was born in 1883 with the launch of the first Orient Express trains complete with richly decorated cabins, absolute comfort and high-end gastronomy on board. From kings and queens to philosophers and writers, politicians, spies and assassins, the travellers of the Orient Express have made it legendary. Spectacularly launched in 2024, La Dolce Vita Orient Express is a contemporary vision of luxury, refurbished with distinct 1960s glamour-era flair. Prepare for an extraordinary journey.
Your cabins: All cabins feature an ensuite bathroom and a central air conditioning system with individual control.
Deluxe Cabins (7 m2) feature cool colours, mirrored back walls and wooden slat ceilings. As night falls and the “Great Transformation” unfolds, witness the space morph into the perfect bedroom for a restful sleep. The sofa becomes a double bed, while the footstools transition into coffee tables and stools.
Suite Cabins (11 m2) are presented as master bedrooms, equipped with a sofa and a table with two armchairs. Vibrant hues of orange, terracotta, and purple accentuate the cheerful ambiance, complemented by genuine brass finishes. Reflective smoked mirrors, glossy lacquered “burnt sienna” ceilings, and sumptuous carpet and curtains, alongside lighting fixtures by renowned twentieth-century designers, infuse the space with timeless elegance and allure.
Room Service
The room service menu features a delightful array of savory Italian delicacies, including olives, fennel taralli, Italian cheese platters, and breadsticks. Place your order directly with the steward using the in-room call button. Your selections will be served on your table.

Indulge in the finest cuisine and wine, from homemade Italian breakfast to Italian Aperitivo, and Le Grand Soir dinner. The Dining Car offers eclectic decor featuring geometric design and a refreshing ambiance. The menu showcases a curated selection of seasonal and regional delights. Itinerary
Day 1 : Rome > Matera
As your journey commences, La Dolce Vita Orient Express departs from Rome Ostiense, embarking on an odyssey of luxury and indulgence. As night descends, immerse yourself in the culinary delights of the Italian-inspired dishes crafted by 3-Michelin starred Chef Heinz Beck. Delight in the flavours of seasonal and locally sourced ingredients, each dish a testament to Italy’s rich gastronomic heritage. This is followed by live music.
Day 2 : Matera
The second day, awake to the aroma of an Italian breakfast before arriving in Matera, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its ancient cave dwellings. You can enjoy exploring at your own pace. Alternatively, there is the option to (at additional cost) reserve curated experiences to tour the city’s rich history and have lunch in a unique cave restaurant. In the afternoon, embark again and indulge in a refreshing Italian Aperitivo as the train journeys onward. As evening falls, experience exquisite cuisine, live music, and refined ambiance creating an unforgettable atmosphere.
Day 3 : Matera > Sulmona > Rome
This morning the train arrives in Sulmona. Enjoy a trip on an historic train to Pescocostanzo, exploring its ancient streets steeped in history and charm. In the afternoon, embark again, returning to Rome Ostiense where your arrangements conclude.
