This family friendly journey is designed to ensure families see the best of Cape Town, the Cape Peninsula and Winelands and enjoy a wonderful safari in the world-renowned Kruger National Park.
Starting off in Cape Town, widely described as one of the world’s most beautiful cities, you’ll enjoy the city’s picturesque Table Mountain and a combination of historical coastal charm and urbane sophistication. In the Cape Winelands, appreciate the many delightful towns and villages and get a taste of not only stunning wines but farm to table cuisine and rural hospitality at a working farm-hotel. Finish with a stay at andBeyond Ngala Private Game Reserve, home to all of the Big Five wildlife, but particularly known for its elephant, buffalo and rhino, as well as its packs of African wild dog, leopard and cheetah. Tailored with families in mind, the accommodation is geared to family travel, large comfy vehicles on transfers, some family-focus on the sightseeing so that the kids are interested and learning at the same time!
Itinerary
Day 1 : Cape Town
Arrive in Cape Town where you will be met and transferred to your apartment. Enjoy three nights in a two-bedroom luxury apartment. Set within Cape Town’s renowned V&A Waterfront, innovative and stylish self-catering apartments are metres from a plethora of restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues.
Day 2 : Cape Town
Embark on a picturesque Cape Town tour first stopping at the renowned Table Mountain, weather permitting, or Signal Hill’s flat-topped summit. Immerse yourself in the liveliness of Greenmarket Square, an ancient market pulsating with energy. Stroll through the historic Company Gardens, a Dutch settlers’ creation dating back to 1652. Pass by significant landmarks like the Houses of Parliament, the historic Castle of Good Hope, and the evocative Slave Lodge, once home to multitudes of Dutch East India Company slaves. Explore the enchanting Malay Quarter nestled in the vibrant Bo-Kaap, showcasing vividly painted houses from the 17th century. Take a moment to hear the resounding noonday gun firing from Signal Hill, a moment steeped in history.
Day 3 : Cape Town
Today enjoy a full-day exploration across the Cape Peninsula, a diverse adventure crafted for families of all ages. Your journey commences in the captivating coastal retreat of Hout Bay, once a fishing village, now graced with a sprawling sandy beach set against majestic mountains. Weather permitting, we may traverse the stunning Chapmans Peak Drive, offering unparalleled views. Your path then leads to Cape Point Reserve, presenting the famed Cape Point Lighthouse and its panoramic vistas of False Bay. Within this reserve lies the renowned Cape of Good Hope, marking the continent’s southwestern tip. Your adventure continues to Simon’s Town, where kids can unearth a trove of polished gemstones at the Scratch Patch, while adults explore Mineral World’s exquisite jewellery. Further along, pause to witness the delightful penguin colony at Boulders Beach, optionally stopping for lunch at a local eatery amidst these charming creatures. The day culminates at the enchanting Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, inviting you to wander the vast pathways, unwind on the lush lawns, or savour an aerial stroll amidst the treetops.
Day 4 : Cape Town > Cape Winelands
Experience the best of both worlds on a family-friendly exploration through the scenic Cape Winelands, blending wine tasting for the adults with a host of engaging activities to captivate younger hearts. Your day begins at the Spice Route Winery, offering wine and beer tastings for adults while the little ones dive into the world of local chocolates and biltong. Discover the artistry of glassblowing and unwind on sprawling lawns ideal for children’s play. Next, immerse in the adventure at Le Bonheur Crocodile Farm, where you will tour the ponds housing over a thousand fascinating reptiles. Kids can delight in touching baby crocodiles and, during summer, witness their daily feeding.
Your final stop at Spier Wine Estate combines wine tasting with a visit to the Eagle Encounter Birds of Prey Rehabilitation Centre. Children can explore bird enclosures or engage with Africa’s majestic raptors and owls under the guidance of seasoned handlers. The centre also offers intimate encounters with creatures like bearded dragons and dwarf chameleons, ensuring an unforgettable day for every member of the family. After your tour, you will be transferred to Babylonstoren where you will enjoy two nights in a two-bedroom cottage.
Day 5 : Cape Winelands
Today is at your leisure. The farm has a beautiful dam, just a short bicycle ride through the vineyards where you are welcome to take the canoes out for a leisurely paddle. The hotel pool is also unique, a restored farm reservoir and perfect for hot summer days. Every morning at 8:00 am there is a guided walk around the farm with one of the gardeners, who takes guests up to the koppie (hill), through the fynbos area and the vlei (wetland), on to the citrus orchards and back past the dam.
The farm is a paradise for children with resident geese, chickens (where they can collect eggs) and beloved donkeys, Meisiekind and Lulu. The donkeys live near the Farm Shop and love nothing better than a snack of bread. Young guests are invited to help feed the donkeys and to help harvest fruit and vegetables from our gardens, especially for the breakfast table.
Day 6 : Cape Winelands > Cape Town > Hoedspruit > Kruger National Park
After checkout, you will be met by our representative who will transfer you to Cape Town International Airport for your flight to Hoedspruit (own arrangements). Upon arrival at Hoedspruit Airport, you will be met by a member of the &Beyond Ngala Safari Lodge team and transferred with fellow guests to the lodge – a drive of approximately two hours.
Spend three nights in a Family Cottage at &Beyond Ngala Safari Lodge. This old-world haven amid the African bush charms with its colonial antiques, silver cutlery, and crystal glassware. Style and grace mingle faultlessly with the rugged natural beauty of the setting, as manicured lawns give way to dense mopane thickets and wild animals saunter down to drink at the waterhole that forms the heart of this authentic safari lodge. The main thatched dining, bar and sitting areas are open to the African bushveld, and the large swimming pool looks out over a busy waterhole where elephants are frequently sighted. Delicious Pan-African cuisine is served in the candle- and lantern-lit courtyard or in the dramatic boma (outdoor dining area). Exceptional bush meals are enjoyed in spectacular settings in the African wilderness.
Days 7 & 8 : Kruger National Park
Enjoy time relaxing and partaking in safari activities. The “Big Five” game drives are led by expert rangers and a Shangaan tracker in open 4×4 safari vehicles. Ngala offers both off-road and night game drives affording excellent sightings and photographic opportunities. Discover a host of interesting nocturnal animals on exhilarating, spot-lit night game drives, or explore Ngala’s intriguing fauna and flora on interactive bush walks led by an experienced ranger or expert Shangaan tracker. Guided bush walks bring you face-to-face with wild Africa at its best, allowing fascinating insights into the landscape, animal tracks and a host of interesting birds, reptiles, insects, and tiny mammals.
Day 9 : Kruger National Park – Hoedspruit
You will be transferred back to Hoedspruit Airport for your onward arrangements.
