Introduction
Food is central to Spanish life and an important aspect of any trip to Spain.
This special journey traces the origins of food and culture from Madrid to San Sebastian. Try tapas in Madrid, explore the exotic, colourful and lively La Bouqueria Market in Barcelona, soak up the drama of flamenco and try pintxos in San Sebastian.
This itinerary can be tailor-made, with the number of days, places visited, and activities varied to suit you.
Itinerary
Day 1 : Madrid
On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure before a traditional Spanish dinner including wine.
Day 2 : Madrid
Join your guide for a walking tour through Madrid de los Austrais Habsburgos, the old historic area of the city. Visit the Plaza de Espana and Plaza de Oriente and the famous Mercado de San Miguel, where you will have the chance to learn about the culinary traditions of Spain. Enjoy an appetiser before a gastronomical experience with a variety of tapas.
Day 3 : Madrid > San Lorenzo de El Escorial > Madrid
Visit San Lorenzo de Escorial to see the magnificent Royal Monastery dating from the 16th century. Dinner and flamenco show for the true essence of Spain this evening.
Day 4 : Madrid > Barcelona
Transfer to the station for the high speed train from Madrid to Barcelona. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. This afternoon, join a cooking class to learn how to cook like a Spaniard.
Day 5 : Barcelona
Meet your guide for a private walking tour of Barcelona. Visit the Passeig de Gracia to see great architectural examples of Gaudi and the impressive Plaza de Catalunya. Stroll along Las Ramblas, where you will have the chance to stop in the Mercado de la Boqueria and browse local products then continue to the Gothic Quarter before returning to your hotel.
Day 6 : Barcelona
At leisure to explore Barcelona. Perhaps visit La Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, the Olympic city, or wander the waterfront.
Day 7 : Barcelona > San Sebastian
Transfer to the station for your journey to San Sebastian. One of the most beautiful cities in Spain, San Sebastian is located in a gorgeous bay. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
Day 8 : San Sebastian
Morning at leisure. This afternoon meet your guide for a walking tour of San Sebastian. Wander through the Playa de la Concha and Palacio Miramar where you will finish with a great experience of pintxos (local tapas).
Day 9 : San Sebastian
Transfer to the airport for your onward journey.
