Introduction
Relax and enjoy a well-paced private tour from Madrid to Santiago de Compostela, exploring wonderful ancient monasteries and elegant streets, trying local specialties and tasting some of Spain’s finest wines.
Itinerary
Day 1 : Madrid
Enjoy a panoramic city tour of Madrid on your way to your selected hotel in the outskirts of the city. See the elegant Serrano St, La Castellana Ave, the Prado Museum and Atocha train station before you head up north to the mountains.
Day 2 : Madrid > Avila
Visit a farm to learn about local goat cheese and enjoy a tasting before heading to San Lorenzo del Escorial for lunch in a Michelin Star restaurant. Visit the monastery, once considered one of the eight Wonders of the World. Continue to Avila for the afternoon and overnight.
Day 3 : Avila > Salamanca
Join your guide for a brief tour of Avila and continue to Salamanca, with a stop in Guijuelo, where a famous Spanish ham is made. Enjoy a lunch of local products before continuing to Salamanca. The afternoon is at leisure to stroll around this wonderful city.
Day 4 : Salamanca > Ribera del Duero
Drive through one of the finest wine regions in Spain, Ribera del Duero. Enjoy wine tasting and lunch before a relaxing afternoon at leisure.
Day 5 : Ribera del Duero > Leon
Drive to Leon with a detour to one of the most renowned meat restaurants in the world, a converted cave winery. Enjoy your wonderful meal and relax before continuing to Leon for an afternoon free to explore the Barrio Humedo, great for tapas.
Day 6 : Leon > Ribeira Sacra
Drive to Ribeira Sacra, the Sacred Riverbank. You will see big stone formations shaping these terraces, perfect for the vines planted by the Romans in the first century. Enjoy a small group sailing tour on the Sil River and try local delicacies.
Day 7 : Ribeira Sacra > Rias Baixas
Head to the Galician coast, the Rias Baixas. This region is well known for its beautiful sand beaches and the excellent gastronomy. Enjoy a sailing tour to explore and try fresh mussels with white wine.
Day 8 : Rias Baixas > Finisterre
Drive to Finisterre, stopping in Santiago to visit the famous cathedral and walk through the cobblestone streets. In Finisterre, stay in a beautiful hotel located in a lighthouse.
Day 9 : Finisterre > Santiago
Transfer to Santiago de Compostela airport for your onward flight.
