Introduction
A unique journey across India by train.
Explore the Golden Triangle of Delhi and its ancient history, tradition and colours of Agra and Jaipur before continuing enjoying a tribal tour of medieval Jodphur. Be surprised by the Bollywood energy of Mumbai and its enterprising slums.
This itinerary can be tailor-made, with the number of days, places visited, and activities varied to suit you.
Itinerary
Day 1 : Delhi
You will be met and transferred to your hotel.
Day 2 : Delhi
Today you will step-back in time to learn about Delhi’s traditions and rich history. After breakfast, you will be meet by your expert guide and visit iconic mosques, including the 17th century red-sandstone Jama Masjid mosque and admire the finest Indo-Islamic architecture. After, you will hop on a rickshaw ride to the one of Asia’s largest spice markets, Khari Baoli and the iconic wholesale bazaar of Chandni Chowk.
Visit the Gandhi Museum, India Gate, President and Government Houses before taking the metro to the central markets of Connaught Place. Continue your journey to a community kitchen at the Sikh Golden Temple which helps feed 10,000 devotees daily – you can chose to participate in the cooking ceremony.
Later this evening enjoy a traditional dinner at an Indian family home. Afterwards return to your hotel.
Day 3 : Delhi > Agra
After breakfast, drive to Agra, the legacy city of Mughal-Empire and home to the beautiful Taj Mahal. Later in the afternoon, you will visit the sacred Yamuna riverside to take in the picturesque views and enjoy a majestic sunset before returning to your hotel.
Day 4 : Agra > Jaipur
This morning you will be transferred to Agra train station to catch train to the city of Jaipur, a historic pink washed city and gateway to India’s most flamboyant state – Rajasthan.
Day 5 : Jaipur
This morning you will step back in time, witnessing relics of the chivalrous Rajput era and its battle-scarred heritage. Proceed towards the city outskirts and enter the ancient town of Amer which offers remarkable Rajput-Mughal architecture. Explore UNESCO World Heritage site and a must see of Jaipur, the Amber Fortress. Walk through the colourful bazaar to see the iconic facade of the Palace of Winds. Discover more about Jaipur’s fascinating history, legends and vibrant streets.
Later, you will join a Bazaar Walk and a tuk-tuk tour through the ancient street markets of downtown Jaipur Bazaar. Chaos and amusement goes hand-in-hand in these maze-like streets. Your tuk-tuk ride ends outside 1976 Heritage Cinema Raj Mandir where we watch a new release Bollywood Blockbuster film.
This evening, if preferred, visit a traditional Indian family home to indulge in ethnic North Indian cooking with dinner and cultural interactions.
Day 6 : Jaipur > Jodhpur
Travel by train to the mystical and blue city of Jodhpur this morning. On arrival, relax at your hotel.
Day 7 : Jodhpur
Enjoy a tour to Jodhpur’s fascinating sites. Start with a walk to the legendary 15th century built Mehrangarh Fortress that stands 410 feet above the skyline of Jodhpur offering stunning views. Explore Jodhpur’s lifestyle, its charming blue-washed houses, local history and discover some lesser-known secrets.
After your sightseeing tour hop on local vintage Jeeps and for a tribal tour to the infamous 15th century Bishnoi Village to encounter and interact with raw tribal life of Bishnoi Tribes, known for their unique lifestyle, fine artwork and pottery making skills.
Finish your day with a Jeep safari to spot rare fauna and flora near Guda Lake.
Day 8 : Jodhpur > Mumbai
This morning you will be transferred to Jodhpur train station to catch an overnight train to the Bollywood city of Mumbai.
Day 9 : Mumbai
Upon arrival in Mumbai you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Later enjoy a tour through Mumbai’s famous streets and buildings.
Formerly known as Bombay, Mumbai is India’s city of dreams, often referred to as the New York of India. Mumbai has lots to offer to the modern traveller, from its renowned Bollywood film industry, to fashion, colonial-era architecture, the Gateway of India by the waterfront, and diversity ranging from one of Asia’s largest slums to the world’s most expensive home. With its colonial and Art Deco buildings, tall skyscrapers, wild traffic and frenetic pace of life, Mumbai is one of India’s most intriguing cities.
Visit Mani Bhawan that was the political activity headquarters for father of India, Mahatma Gandhi. Then arrive at the Churchgate Railway Station and witness the traditional lunchbox delivery system of Dabbawala, unique to Mumbai. Continue to the waterfront and visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Victoria Terminus Train Station. Your tour ends at the famed bazaar of British Bombay, Crawford Market, operating since 1869 as the oldest flea market in the world.
Day 10 : Mumbai
After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport where arrangements end.
