Itinerary
Day 1 : Semarang > Losari, Magelang Regency
Arrive in Semarang on Java and travel to Gedong Songo temple, an ancient Hindu marvel dating back to the 8th and 9th centuries. Discovered by Sir Stanford Raffles in 1804, this temple complex predates Borobudur and Prambanan, showcasing early Indian Hindu architectural influence. Gedong Songo I, the oldest temple, boasts a square plan, while Gedong Songo II-V features unique rectangular designs, extending the plinth base for a porch. Your exploration unveils the ingenious architectural evolution of these temples, surpassing predecessors like Dieng and Sewu. Trek through picturesque Mount Ungaran slopes, tracing a 2-kilometre circuit to discover all nine temples spread across five sites. Afterwards, journey to Losari for a luxurious stay at MesaStila Resort & Spa, adorned with antiques and enchanting buildings; including Central Java icons such as a colonial railway station and historic joglo-villas.
Day 2 : Losari
Early this morning you will explore Borobudur, a UNESCO-listed gem from the 9th century nestled amidst twin volcanoes and rivers. Discover its serene surroundings, revered by locals as the “garden of Java” for its fertile lands. Abandoned after the decline of Buddhism, Borobudur lay hidden under volcanic ash for centuries, only to be rediscovered and celebrated as a symbol of cultural resilience. Return to MesaStila Resort, and in the afternoon, delve into its expansive coffee plantation on a guided tour. Learn about diverse coffee varieties and sustainable farming practices while savouring freshly roasted coffee. Enjoy a leisurely evening, relishing the tranquil ambience of your surroundings.
Day 3 : Losari > Solo/Surakarta
Enjoy a scenic journey to Solo. Upon arrival, delve into the enchanting realm of Java’s ancient temples on the western slope of Mount Lawu. Your two-hour trek unveils the majestic Cetho Temple, a 15th-century Hindu shrine. Marvel at its intricate details, including temple guardians and a unique platform adorned with a turtle head and a grand lingam. Next, explore Sukuh Temple, renowned as the ‘Erotic Temple’ of Java, nestled on Mount Lawu’s sacred slope. Admire its distinct Hindu wayang stone carvings and three-tiered terraces, each linked by ascending alleys. After a simple lunch, check in to your hotel, concluding a day rich in cultural exploration.
Day 4 : Solo > Yogyakarta City
Depart for Kaliadem, the starting point of today’s cycling journey. Enjoy a scenic downhill ride to Plaosan Temple, a revered Buddhist site dating back to the mid-9th century. Divided by a road, Plaosan complex comprises two temples: Plaosan Lor in the north and Plaosan Kidul in the south. Cycle through picturesque landscapes and quaint villages, with Mount Merapi as your backdrop. Along the way, observe local farmers tending to tobacco, rice, and snake fruit plantations. Pause at ancient temples with intricate carvings predating the 8th century before reaching Plaosan Temple. After exploring and having lunch, your driver will transfer you to the majestic Prambanan temple complex. Learn about its significance in Hinduism, showcasing three major temples dedicated to the Trimurti. Wrap up the day and indulge in a leisurely evening.
